
Julie London (nee Peck) was an American actress and a singer with a career that spanned 40 years. A torch performer renowned for her smooth, sultry contralto voice, London recorded over thirty albums of pop and jazz standards between 1955 between the years 1955 and 1969. Inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001 was her recording of "Cry me a river" which she had introduced to her debut album. London was also nominated in 1974 for the Golden Globe Award for her character as Dixie McCall, a nurse in the show Emergency! London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. She began her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's 35 year acting career began with film in 1944. It featured roles in the lead female role in numerous westerns. The singer signed a recording contract with Liberty Records in the mid-1950s. This marked the beginning of her professional music career. In 1969 she released her final studio album. However, she continued to be part of the emergency show as Dixie McCall, a female nurse. (1972-1979), she was married to her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb produced the show.
