Dolly-Parton
Dolly Parton, who was born in Locust Ridge Tenn. on Jan. 19. 1946 to a low-income family, with twelve kids later on, realized early that she was able to escape her hardships through a vivid imagination. Before she learned to read or write, Dolly Parton was creating her own music. The first time she picked up a guitar was at age 8 and started performing on the Knoxville Tenn radio station at the age of eleven. That same year she made her debut recording for Gold Band Records a tiny independent label. Even though she was still in school, she had already made a name of herself in the local music scene. But her dream was to to make music on a bigger scale. The day after she graduated in 1964 she moved to Nashville. Dumb Blonde, Something Fishy and Dumb Blonde both charted on Monument Records in 1967. At about this time Porter Wagoner was looking for the next girl to perform on the show he had syndicated to television. Parton was hired in the year 1966. She joined RCA Records in 1968, and the Grand Ole Opry was founded in the year 1969. In 1974, she resigned from Wagoner's Show because the success of her solo songs like Joshua Coats of Many Colors or Jolene was way ahead of their joint release. Parton's song, I Will Never Have Love for You (for Wagoner), was able to reach the top of the. number 1 position after the duo separated. #1 for the first time since 1974.
