Lee Roy Selmon has a background that is a combination of family scholarships football and volunteer work in the community. In the first place, he was brought up with Lucious and Jessie Selmon. They lived on the farm close to Eufala in Oklahoma as one of their nine children. Two, football. He is among three brothers who participated in the football team of Oklahoma. The three brothers all made All-America. In 1973, Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy is the winner of both Outland Awards as well as Lombardi Awards. He was one of the top linemen in across the country. He was awarded two championships as well as the score was 32-1-1 over his three seasons as the Oklahoma's starting linebacker. In 1975, he received the third scholarship of his career and was recognized as a National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon is a graduate of the University of Michigan with a degree in education. Fourth year of college Lee Roy devoted ten hours each week on volunteer work. Following graduation, Lee Roy settled in Tampa which is where he played for 9 years with the Buccaneers. Three times he was selected All-Pro. Then he began his business career. By 1988 he had become an Account Relation Officer at Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked with these groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute as a member of the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. The Junior Chamber of Commerce honored his name in 1982, as one of the top 10 young men in the US. As a student, Lee Roy was 6-2 and was weighing 256 pounds. He captained his college team in the year 1975. He was hired by the University of South Florida in 1993, as associate director of sports. In 1988, Selmon was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. In addition, he was inducted into the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 awarded its Distinguished American Award to his parents Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon is the Oklahoma governor, who presented this award.
